Jacob and Esau In the book of Genesis, we are introduced to Jacob and Esau. These two are widely known because of the treachery committed against God and the deception of the father. For those who do not know about them, let me introduce them. Jacob and Esau are the sons of Isaac and Rebekah. Before their birth, the Lord came to Rebekah and said: “Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowls; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; the elder shall serve the younger” (Genesis 25:23 KJV). What is really crazy is the twins were favored individually by the parents: Jacob and Rebekah, and Isaac and Esau (Genesis 25:28). As time passed Esau was out working in the field and Jacob stayed in the tent preparing food. One day Esau came in and told Jacob:
Birthright is defined biblically as primogeniture, the right of the firstborn. As we reflect back on the above story, we notice that Esau really did not understand the value of his birthright, because if he did he wouldn’t have sold it for a bowl of pottage. Birthright? Do I Have One A birthright is extremely important. It is your rights as the oldest child. In the biblical, times the eldest son received this honor. The privileges and responsibilities were to be respected. The father also has the right to place the blessing on another son, as seen with Reuben and Jacob. According to an article in gotQuestions.org, “After the father died, or in the father’s absence, the firstborn son assumed the father’s authority and responsibilities.” (Why is the birthright so emphasized in the Bible. Accessed March 28, 2017. Do I have a birthright? I am so happy you asked if you are born again of the water and the spirit; then you most certainly have a birthright. John 3:3 provides the support to the statement, it says: “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again of the water and the spirit, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3 KJV) When we are adopted, we are not only adopted into the family but also into the kingdom and all of its benefits. In the book of Romans chapter eight, our adoption is revealed in there and it identifies our adoption into the family of God. The 16th and 17th verses state “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ…” If we are heirs and joint-heirs, then divine healing is our birthright with Christ. Divine healing is the birthright of the people who took the time to b born again. There are absolute benefits in serving and loving on Christ. He will not leave us hanging, nor will he withhold any good thing from us (Psalm 84:11 KJV). Come to the Lord, give your life, and live for him with your whole heart and watch as the healing in your heart, soul, and mind begins. The Scribe
